This dialog allows you to filter out selected files that are added or dropped onto FAR.
When a folder is dropped onto FAR, FAR creates a file list by crawling through all folders and subfolders. These three filters help you control which files end up in the file list. If any folders or files are excluded by any filter, those files will not be included. Files and folders of an excluded folder are also excluded.
Suppose you want to perform find and replace on all HTML files of a web. Simply set the "Only Include Files" filter to ".HT*" and drop the webs root folder onto FAR. The result is a list of all HTML files. If you want to also exclude FrontPage management folders then you could specify a Skip Folder filter of "_vti*".
You could also use the Windows Find File dialog to first create a filtered file list, and then drop them onto FAR.
Once you have set up your filters (below) you can save them away under a name. Type in a name and press Save. Press Remove to remove the current Filter Set. To recall a setup, drop the drop down control and select a Filter Set. Anytime you change the filters you should press Save to make the change permanent . Pressing OK also does the save action.
FAR filters are very basic. Your choices are:
- a file extension eg. ".ext" (same as *.ext). Finds any files with that file ext.
- a full file name eg. BuildAll.Bat
- a file name containing a single "*" char and one or more "?" chars.
"?" matches any single character and "*" matches any string of characters including an empty string.
Example: "Build*.L?? will find Build.log, Build001.log, Build.L01 etc
