Convert to XHTML Dialog
The Convert to XHTML dialog is available from the Commands menu (main
window). Press OK to converts all HTML files in the FAR file list to XHTML
format.
Tag elements and attribute names are converted to lowercase and all open tags
are closed. Syntax problems that cannot be fixed automatically are logged to the
output log file so they can be fixed manually later.
The command does not replace a good validation tool, but it does save you
time migrating from HTML to XHTML.
Convert Options:
- OK to Modify Files (uncheck to report only) - Files are not
modified when unchecked. Useful if you simply want to scan for problems such as tags with
no matching end tag.
- XML Declaration - Add <?xml version="1.0" encoding="%encoding%"?>
to the start of each file. This statement is recommended for XHTML but can
be omitted if the file is Unicode encoded and has a DocType statement. If
you don't we force this declaration (otherwise MS Help 3 can fail to render
this correctly).
- XHTML DocType - Select the type of XHTML to convert to. This
mostly effects header information, and the type of errors and warnings logged.
The log file is written to the root directory of the file list. The log is
displayed automatically when the conversion completes.
